Stony Brook University announces Grollman-Gombo Scholarship - 2019

The Department of Education has announced 2019 Grollman - Gombo Scholarship offered by Stony Brook University to study Master in Public Health to a Tibetan student. The applicant must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for this scholarship.

Application Requirements

1. All Applicants must:

• Be a Tibetan individual holding an updated Green Book issued by the Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala, India.

• Apply to the Master of Public Health program at Stony Brook University starting in the Fall of 2019.

• Submit a resume.

• Submit official GRE (verbal, quantitative, and analytical) scores along with the application package. Candidates taking the GRE should notify the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to forward their scores to Stony Brook University [The institution code for SBU is 2548]. All candidates must have taken the GRE within the last two years.

• Arrange for three letters of recommendation from persons who can speak to the applicant's capacity to complete a course of graduate study, provide leadership in public health, and address the public health needs of the Tibetan community. If the applicant is a student or has graduated within the last two years, one letter should be from a college/university faculty member familiar with the applicant's work.

• Write a personal essay of 1,000 words or less describing the applicant's background and experience, and how training in public health will prepare him/her for a leadership role in addressing the public health needs of the Tibetan community. [The essay should be written in 12-point font and have a one-inch margin on all sides].

• A personal interview, if requested by the Selection Committee, will be required.

2. Applicants from the United States and Canada must fulfill the following requirements in addition to the requirements above for All Applicants

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 GPA or better.

• Official transcripts from all post-secondary schools (college/university).

3. Applicants from outside the U.S. and Canada must fulfill the following requirements in addition to the requirements outlined for All Applicants

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. If the Bachelor's degree is from a three-year program, an additional year of academic work after receiving the Bachelor's degree is required. The additional year may consist of credentials from the 1st year of a Master's degree program or credentials from a recognized academic program.

• Official academic transcripts or college/university academic records, i.e. degree(s) and mark-sheets. [Mark-sheets are for students from India, Nepal, and Bhutan where the university/college usually issues to individual students annual mark-sheets that reflect their examination scores].

• International students should submit TOEFL iBT (internet based test) or IELTS exam scores taken within the last two years for candidates trained in non-English speaking schools and who do not reside in an English speaking country. This applies to Tibetan students from India, Nepal or Bhutan. TOEFL or IELTS is NOT a requirement for this scholarship application but the selected candidate will be required to submit his/her TOEFL or IELTS score before final approval by the university admissions committee. Therefore, candidates should take the TOEFL iBT/IELTS as soon as possible.

• Candidate will be required to apply for a student visa from the respective U.S. Embassy. [Selection of a candidate does not guarantee approval of visa application by the U.S. Embassy. For more information about international student services, see: http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/visa/].

• International students should request a course-by-course educational credential evaluation by the World Education Services (http://www.wes.org). This evaluation is NOT a requirement for this scholarship application but the selected candidate will be required to have his/her credentials evaluated by WES before final approval by the university admissions committee. Therefore, candidates should start the process of credential evaluation by WES as soon as possible. This evaluation provides a U.S. course equivalent for semester hours earned, course content, and corresponding letter grade for all courses listed on the applicant's transcript. Documents must be organized in the following order

1. A cover page that includes your full legal name, mailing address, email address, and phone number.

2. Copy of Green book: first page and the page reflecting latest update.

3. Copies of official academic transcripts OR degree and mark sheets of college and university as described above under application requirements.

4. Copy of GRE scores.

5. Letters of Recommendation.

6. Personal essay.

7. Resume.

8. Copy of TOEFL iBT/IELTS scores for international students, if available.

9. WES Credential Evaluation for international students, if available.

Upon receipt of the application, the Program will inform the applicant as to whether the application is complete and under consideration and, subsequently, when a decision has been made.

US Tibetan Scholarship Program (TSP) - Fall 2020

The Education Department of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) had published the announcement for Fall 2020 Tibetan Scholarship Program (TSP) sponsored by the Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US State Department. It is being administered jointly by the Tibet Fund & The Department of Education, CTA.

 Important Date:

  • The last date for submission of Online Application form: March 16, 2019 before 5:00 pm (IST)

Number of Scholarship: About six (6) candidates from India and one (1) from Nepal will be selected to this program.

Who can apply? 

Application will be accepted from eligible Tibetan refugees residing in India and Nepal for two-year Master's Degree programs in the United States, pending the availability of funds.  Click the link to apply ONLINE

Wasatch Academy High School Scholarship - 2019

The Department of Education, CTA has announced the Wasatch Academy, Utah, US scholarship for a Tibetan refugee student to pursue High School Education (grade 9 to 12) at the Academy.

Important Date:

  • The last date for submission of Online Application Form: March 31, 2019

 

What the Scholarship covers: It covers tuition fee, room and board.

What the Scholarship doesn't cover: The selected candidate has to bear the travel expenses.

Eligibility and required documents to be uploaded:
1. Applicant and applicant's parents must have paid Green Book (GB) contribution till 2018. Upload first and last page of GB. Those whose parents are in Tibet/separated/deceased, a letter of recommendation to this effect must be produced from the Tibetan Settlement Officer.
2. Applicant must be from one of the Tibetan schools under CTA and must have completed Class VIII in 2018 with a score of 75% and above. Upload Class VIII marks card.

Mode of Selection:

1. After the application deadline, there will be a written test of Tibetan, English and Mathemtics in April, 2019. The test will be conducted in respective Tibetan Settlement offices. Final score will be distributed as follows with more weightage to Mathematics:

Marks Distribution: Tibetan = 25%, English = 25% and Mathematics = 50%

2. The top four candidates are required to fill Wasatch Academy online application form and submit recommendation letters to the Wasatch Academy. This will be followed by an online interview by a member of Wasatch Academy for final selection in May 2019.

Global Incubator Leadership (GLI) Scholarship - 2019

The Department of Education (DoE), CTA has announced Global Leadership Incubator (GLI) Scholarship to study an Undergraduate program in one of the Colleges/Universities in the United States. Interested candidates may apply before the given deadline.

Eligibility and required documents to be uploaded:

1. Applicant must be a Tibetan refugee student who has a Green Book (GB) and a valid Registration Certificate (RC). Applicant and his/her parents' Green Book contribution must be paid till 2018. Information about RC and GB must be mentioned in "Form-A" and attested by the concerned Tibetan Settlement Officer. (upload duly filled "Form-A")

2. Applicant must have graduated Class XII in 2018 with a score of 75% and above. (upload Class XII marks card).

3. Applicant must have studied Tibetan Language till Class X or must have passed in "Tibetan Language Proficiency Test" (TLPT) conducted by DOE in 2018. (upload Class X marks card)

4. During application, one may have a minimum TOEFL score of 90, but later, if shortlisted, the candidate must have a minimum TOEFL score of 100. (upload TOEFL Score Sheet)

5. Completed GLI Form must be uploaded. (attached GLI Form)
